Background
Background
The client is a U.S.-based water treatment provider serving homeowners through product distribution, professional installation, and residential water quality services.
For this type of business, product selection affects more than the initial sale. It also shapes customer trust, installation efficiency, and the quality of ongoing support.
As awareness of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other drinking-water contaminants grew, the client identified an opportunity to move beyond conventional filtration products and introduce a more differentiated point-of-use water treatment offering.
The U.S. market contains numerous under-sink filters with similar appearances and broad performance claims. The client therefore wanted to evaluate a solution with clearly documented reduction claims, practical maintenance features, and a product platform that could fit its installation-led business model.
HisoAir was approached to help the client assess whether an existing filtration platform, supported by product-specific certification evidence and OEM/ODM resources, could provide a credible starting point for this expansion
The Idea
The idea was to create a premium residential under-sink water filtration offering that the client could confidently introduce through its existing distribution and professional installation channels.
Instead of beginning with an entirely new system design, the client could evaluate an established filtration platform first, then decide which elements required branding, accessory adjustments, or additional development.
This would provide a more practical path from product exploration to market validation.
The proposed offering needed to bring together several requirements:
Verifiable PFAS Reduction
Claims supported by third-party certification for an identified product and cartridge configuration.
Practical Residential Installation
A compact point-of-use system suited to under-sink spaces and professional installer workflows.
Straightforward Filter Replacement
A service-friendly cartridge interface that homeowners and technicians could manage over time.
A Repeatable Commercial Model
Opportunities for replacement-cartridge orders and long-term customer relationships, subject to market acceptance.
Room for Brand Development
Potential OEM/private-label packaging and product presentation, with certification implications evaluated separately.
HisoAir introduced its WP3000(US) under-sink filtration platform as the proposed technical reference.
Its existing filtration architecture and certification documentation offered the client a concrete system to assess, rather than a concept supported only by marketing claims.
The initial decision was deliberately limited: test samples, assess fit with the local market, and use those findings to determine whether to proceed with a branded product program.
The Challenge
Establishing Meaningful Product Differentiation
Many residential water filters compete on low price or generic claims.
The client needed a clear, defensible reason for homeowners and professional installers to consider a premium under-sink solution.
Communicating PFAS Reduction Responsibly
PFAS refers to a large family of chemicals.
A broad “PFAS removal” statement does not define which substances, conditions, or product configurations were evaluated.
The client needed product-specific evidence and guidance on using certification claims accurately in sales and marketing materials.
Matching Professional Installation Requirements
The system needed to fit realistic kitchen cabinet spaces and allow straightforward connection, inspection, and cartridge replacement.
A solution that complicates routine service can create costs for both installers and homeowners.
Evaluating the Economics of Replacement Filters
The client wanted to explore an ongoing cartridge-replacement business, but demand, service intervals, pricing, and customer acceptance had not yet been validated.
These factors needed review before establishing a full commercial program.
Controlling Market Entry Risk
A fully customized filtration system would introduce additional engineering, testing, certification, tooling, and inventory commitments.
The client needed a phased approach that allowed technical and market feedback to guide future investment.
The HisoAir Solution
HisoAir proposed a phased solution built around an existing under-sink filtration platform, third-party certification evidence, practical installation features, and flexible OEM/ODM cooperation.
The goal was to give the client a technically credible product to evaluate before making wider commercial commitments.
A Certification-Backed PFAS Filtration Platform
The WP3000(US) system with its specified WP3000(US)-RF replacement cartridge is listed by IAPMO R&T for applicable requirements of NSF/ANSI 42, NSF/ANSI 53, NSF/ANSI 401, and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372.
The NSF/ANSI 53 listing includes Total PFAS Reduction for the listed configuration.
The specified system has a rated flow of 1.5 GPM and a rated capacity of 3,000 gallons under its applicable certification listings.
These ratings and contaminant-reduction claims apply to the identified product configuration, not to every possible customized cartridge or assembly.
For the client, this meant evaluating a documented filtration platform rather than beginning with an untested concept.
HisoAir could support technical review with product specifications and references to the relevant certification documents.
Installation and Replacement Built into the Design
The proposed platform uses a compact under-sink format and a twist-lock replacement cartridge.
Its service-oriented design is intended to simplify routine cartridge changes and support professional installation workflows.
This matters for a provider whose customer experience includes installation and after-sales service.
Ease of access, cartridge compatibility, replacement instructions, and maintenance planning all influence whether the product fits the company’s existing operations.
From Equipment Sale to Cartridge-Service Opportunity
The cartridge architecture also creates the potential for repeat filter orders and long-term customer contact.
HisoAir discussed how a future replacement program might support dealer replenishment, scheduled service, and customer reminders.
This remains a potential business model rather than an achieved revenue result.
Replacement timing must follow the selected system’s specifications, water conditions, and actual usage.
OEM / Private-Label Development with Certification Discipline
HisoAir’s OEM/ODM support can cover product presentation, private-label discussions, packaging, selected accessories, technical documentation, and supply planning.
These options allow a water treatment brand to consider differentiation without committing to a completely new filtration architecture at the outset.
However, certification does not transfer automatically to a client-branded or modified system.
Any changes to filtration media, wetted materials, flow path, or connected cartridge arrangement may require separate evaluation or approval before equivalent certified claims can be used.
A Phased Evaluation Instead of a Premature Launch
The immediate cooperation focused on sample assessment and market research.
After reviewing the proposed product direction, the client placed a sample order to support technical testing and local-market evaluation.
This staged process gives both parties a practical basis for deciding on future branding, channel development, cartridge supply, and possible expansion into additional residential or commercial water treatment products.
The Results
The project progressed from an initial market-expansion discussion to a defined product evaluation step.
After technical exchanges and an assessment of the proposed filtration platform, the client ordered sample units for testing and market research.
This is an important but deliberately limited outcome.
The sample order confirms that the client moved beyond a general inquiry and chose to evaluate an actual product.
It does not establish that the system has been commercially launched, installed at scale, or adopted under a final private-label brand.
The evaluation now provides a basis for reviewing three practical questions:
Technical Fit
Does the product meet the client’s expectations for installation, maintenance, and usable product documentation?
Market Fit
Can the client position a certification-backed PFAS filtration solution appropriately for U.S. homeowners?
Commercial Fit
Is there sufficient opportunity to develop a replacement-cartridge program and, potentially, a broader OEM/private-label relationship?
The discussions also identified possible longer-term directions, including whole-house and commercial water treatment.
These remain future opportunities rather than confirmed product programs.
Current Project Status: Sample Evaluation and Market Validation.
The next commercial step will depend on the client’s test findings and market feedback.
Key Achievements Include:
Conclusion
This case demonstrates how a U.S. water treatment provider can approach the PFAS filtration market through structured product evaluation rather than an immediate commitment to full custom development.
HisoAir contributed an established under-sink filtration platform, product-specific certification references, installation-oriented engineering, and OEM/ODM support for potential future commercialization.
Together, these elements help the client evaluate both the technical suitability of the system and the long-term service opportunities associated with replaceable cartridges.
The project remains at the sample-testing and market-research stage.
Its value lies in providing a credible starting point for the client’s next decision: whether to proceed with a branded residential filtration program, refine the proposed solution, or explore adjacent water treatment categories.
For water treatment brands and professional installation partners, the wider lesson is clear: verifiable filtration claims, serviceable product design, and a disciplined development process are essential foundations for a sustainable product offering.
